Tax question about self-employment!?!?

Leif Andreason: I assume you mean you were a contractor, not an employee, and the company gave you a 1099-MISC for the amount you received? In that case, the company would not have been taking out social security, but instead you have to pay Self-Employment tax on your return.

Malcom Fenoff: It isnt just state and federal taxes but also self employment taxes. Those are social security 6.2% and medicare 1.45%. Normally the employer pays half and you pay half. The numbers above are half. In your case you have to pay the whole amount. If you look you should have a credit for half of it being subtracted from your income.
